Greetings from 1691

Thomond Park has two stadium nights on the bounce. Lewis Capaldi on Friday, Florence + The Machine on Saturday, and the whole city pointed north of the river for the weekend.

Before all that, Dolans runs its usual full diary with trad from Niamh Parsons and stand-up from Derek Mitchell.

Garrett Lombard brings Eoin Colfer's My Real Life to the Belltable, and the week closes out with the Garden Festival taking over the Milk Market.

This is our pick of what's on this week. As always for a full event list check out the link at the bottom of the email.

Let's dive in 👇

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Florence + The Machine

Saturday 27 June · Doors 17:00 · Thomond Park

Florence Welch brings the Everybody Scream tour to Limerick for what the venue is calling her biggest show here yet, one of only two Irish dates. Expect the full sweep, from Dog Days Are Over and Shake It Out through to the new record, delivered with the kind of theatrical abandon that translates better to an open stadium than almost anyone else working. Rachel Chinouriri opens.

Lewis Capaldi

Friday 26 June · Doors 17:00 · Thomond Park

Capaldi's comeback run has been the hottest ticket of the summer, and Limerick sold out fast. CMAT is the special guest, which is a billing that would headline most weeks on its own. If you have a ticket, you did well. If you don't, the singalong will carry over the walls of Thomond regardless.

My Real Life

Wednesday 24 June · 20:00 · Belltable

Garrett Lombard, a fixture at the Abbey and Druid, plays Noel, a man recording his thoughts for a friend that turn out to be the speech for his own funeral. Written by Eoin Colfer with his trademark mix of dark and warm, it is an hour of one man reliving forty years with wit and no self-pity. The opposite of a stadium night, and exactly the kind of thing the Belltable does best.

Blas Presents Alltacht with Niamh Parsons

Thursday 25 June · 20:00 · Dolans Upstairs

Niamh Parsons has one of the great Irish voices, the sort that gets mentioned in the same breath as Dolores Keane and earns it. An upstairs trad night with her is about as good as a Thursday gets in this city. Over 18s.

Opera Rendezvous

Wednesday 24 June · 19:00 · Dolans Warehouse

Limerick's own singers take on the big arias and duets from Puccini, Bellini and Mozart. Opera in the Warehouse rather than a concert hall is a lovely bit of contradiction, and a low-pressure way in if you have never tried it.

Tinteán Sessions

Tuesday 23 June · 20:00 · The Record Room

The weekly session at the Record Room, local and visiting players, no cover charge worth complaining about. The kind of midweek music that reminds you why you live in a city with a scene.

Derek Mitchell

Thursday 25 June · 19:30 · Dolans Kasbah

The viral creator with nearly a million followers brings his new show about life between two cultures to the Kasbah. Online numbers don't always translate to a live room, but the Kasbah is small enough that it will be a fair test, and the early word is good.

Summer Spritz Party

Saturday 27 June · 18:00 · Maggie Choo's at 101

Paint and personalise your own spritz glass, two West Coast Cooler cans thrown in, all materials and a bit of guidance provided. A daft, fun pre-night-out idea that is better with a group.

Limerick Garden Festival

Sunday 28 June · Milk Market

The Milk Market handed over to talks, masterclasses, cookery demos and a full garden, food and craft market. A proper Sunday potter, and the kind of low-key day out that sends you home with plants you didn't plan to buy.

Twilight Thursdays

Thursday 25 June · Evening · Various city venues

The city's monthly late-evening run, with music, food, workshops and shops keeping the doors open after dark. A good excuse to be in town on a Thursday with no fixed plan.

Free Meditation and Yoga

Tuesday 23 June · 18:00 · City Library

A free, all-levels session in the City Library, no gear or experience needed. A quiet hour before the weekend turns loud.
